South of Seneca Lake in New York State’s Finger Lake region lies Watkins Glen State Park. The park is approximately 778 acres and has been noted in several publications as “One of the most beautiful places to visit” and a “must-see when visiting Upstate New York”.
Once I finally had the opportunity to visit Watkins Glen State Park, I could understand why so many were enamored by the area. Between stone bridges, unexpected waterfalls, and stunning natural wonders around every bend – visiting Watkins Glen almost feels as if you stepped into a fairy tale.

Stand still.
The trees ahead and bushes beside you are not lost.
Wherever you are is called Here.
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger.
Must ask permission to know It and be known.
The forest breathes.
Listen.
It answers.
I have made this place around you.
And if you leave it, you may come back again saying…
“Here.”
No two trees are the same to raven.
No two branches are the same to wren.
If what a tree or branch does is lost on you,
Then you are surely lost.
Stand still.
The forest knows where you are.
You must let it find you.
-David Wagner
Hey that’s close to me! And believe it or not, I’ve only been once. And it was the end of winter, so many of the trails were still closed and the water was really muddy. It did NOT look like this! I promised I’d go back this year in the summer.
